Mechanical Tests

The laboratory is equipped to performs the most common mechanical tests such as:

Room temperature tensile test – ASTM E8/E8M / ASTM A370 / UNI EN ISO 6892-1

The tensile test, through the application of a uniaxial tensile nominal stress, it provides information about the resistance, ductility, elastic modulus, tensile strength, yield strength, elongation and reduction of area.

High temperature tensile test (up to 900°C) – ASTM E21 / UNI EN ISO 6892-2

The tensile test at high temperatures provides an estimation of the metal capacity to withstand the tensile loads under particular conditions at high temperature.

Wedge test – ASTM A370

The tensile wedge test, through the application of a tensile stress in conjunction with a inclined wedge, it provides important indexes of the interface resistance between the screw and its head screw.

Proof load test – ASTM A370

The proof load test is useful in order to determine the load limit beyond which the product deforms beyond the elastic limit.

Bend test on weld coupons – ASTM E190 / UNI EN ISO 5173

The guided bend test on weld coupons is a useful method for the evaluation of the weld quality in relation to the ductility. The ductility is underlined by the material capacity to withstand the rupture process.

Charpy test or impact test at room temperature – ASTM E23 / ASTM A370 / UNI EN ISO 148-1

The Charpy test or impact test at room temperature is useful to evaluate the material reactions towards a single multiaxial stress related to a notch and the relative ductility.

Charpy test or impact test at low temperature (down to -196°C) - ASTM E23 / ASTM A370 / UNI EN ISO 148-1

The Charpy test or impact test at low temperature is useful to evaluate the material reactions towards a single multiaxial stress related to a notch and the relative ductility at low temperatures

Transition curves – ASTM E23 / UNI EN ISO 148-1

The transition curves could be obtained through a series of impact tests, and it permits to provide a wide and complete vision of the material behavior in relation to its temperature.

Vickers hardness test – ASTM E92 / UNI EN ISO 6507-1

The Vickers hardness test provides an index for the resistance to a permanent deformation, by the use of a load on a pyramid diamond indenter.

Rockwell hardness test – ASTM E18 / UNI EN ISO 6508-1

The Rockwell hardness test provides an index for the resistance to a permanent deformation, by the use of a load on a conical diamond indenter or on a spherical tungsten carbide indenter.

Brinell hardness test – ASTM E10 / UNI EN ISO 6506-1

The Brinell hardness test provides an index for the resistance to a permanent deformation, by the use of a load on a spherical tungsten carbide indenter.

Hardness with portable instrument UCI (Ultrasonic Contact Impedance) – ASTM E110 / ASTM A1038

The UCI hardness tests (Ultrasonic Contact Impedance) are executed by the use of a portable ultrasonic durometer, which is able to detect the frequency change once the materiali s indented. The frequency change is translated into an hardness value. This kind of test could be easily executed at customers’ facilites and it is useful on locations of difficult access.

Vickers micro-hardness test – ASTM E384 / UNI EN ISO 6507-1

The Vickers micro-hardnes test is useful in order to evaluate and quantify the hardness duration present in a small material section, in addition it is useful on those pieces that are too thin in order to be macro-hardness tested.
